Confirm the reader
Handheld laser scanners, two-dimensional imagers and smartphone cameras all have different tolerances for code density, contrast and distance. We start from the device your team will actually carry, not the one on a datasheet.

Match code format to the register
Code 128 handles alphanumeric references compactly, Code 39 suits older readers, and QR codes carry a full address so a scan can open a record. Format follows what your asset system accepts.

Size codes for the working distance
A code that scans on a desk may fail at arm's length in a dim store. We test a printed sample at realistic distance and light before committing a batch to production.

Structure the export file
Scans are only useful if they land in the right columns. We prepare data in the layout your asset management software expects, with locations and categories already mapped.

Laptops, monitors and network hardware move constantly, which makes them the hardest category to keep accurate and the easiest to improve. A scannable tag applied during imaging ties each unit to its assignment record before it ever reaches a desk.
Encoding a stable internal reference rather than a system-specific database identifier keeps the tags valid through a platform change. When the software is replaced, records migrate and the physical estate stays untouched.
For maintenance-managed equipment, a QR code that opens a service form lets technicians record work at the machine. Notes written where the work happens are far more reliable than notes written back at a desk hours later.
